It’s 2025, and AI is here to stay. Probably. Realistically speaking, there have been a lot of different technological trends that have been touted as “the next big thing” and just turned out not to really be that (shout out to anyone who bought a 3D TV). Over the course of the past year, though, advancements in the technology and the fact that everyone seems to be talking about how big AI is going to be have kept it relevant long enough to where it might be time to start considering the possibility of AI sticking around for a while (albeit probably in a slightly different, much-improved form than now).

For a business—especially small businesses—this can raise a number of issues, mainly how do you compete with the larger companies with significantly more resources at their disposal to throw toward AI projects? What sorts of things can businesses realistically expect to happen with AI in the next year? Will there be new rules and regulations to navigate surrounding AI? With this much uncertainty, it can be hard to plan out your company’s next move when it comes to AI.

Here at Payday HCM, we understand this uncertainty. Since we’ve been around since 1985, we’ve seen a large number of shifts in the technological landscape. Not only that, but we’ve been working ourselves to figure out just how we are going to navigate this new AI world.

In this article, we’ll go over the potential impacts businesses could expect to see regarding AI heading into 2025. We’ll discuss the different trends that may become popular in the new year and how the technology might evolve, as well as look at the potential introduction of new legislation or regulation surrounding AI. We’ll also go deeper into the kinds of thinking businesses should consider when it comes to AI in 2025. By the end of this article, you’ll have enough information about AI so that you can become one of those annoying business influencers who just cannot stop talking about it.

In this article, you will learn:

AI In Business: Tools And Business Operations

The first topic we’ll cover is how AI tools might change in 2025 and how these new tools might impact your business’s day-to-day operations.

The Rise of AI Agents

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang predicts 2025 will be the "year of AI agents," according to Barron’s. These agents are expected to transform industries like software development and customer support by automating processes, improving accuracy, and saving time. Unlike the current AI systems, these AI agents are far more autonomized, taking initiative and anticipating needs.

AI agents can also enhance personalization in services, tailoring experiences to individual customer needs. Of course, one potential drawback is that the true potential of these AI agents may only be unlocked when combined with smaller AI language models.

Integrated AI Platforms for Enterprises

Platforms like ServiceNow are embedding AI technologies to act as central control points for digital transformations. These platforms enable businesses to automate and optimize workflows across departments, resulting in more cohesive and efficient operations.

Such integrations allow for real-time data analysis, making decision-making faster and more precise. The key here is, of course, they still require a human touch. These systems aren’t meant to replace humans so much as automate tasks and make the job easier.

AI In Leadership: Workforce And Leadership Adaptation

The next thing to look at is how AI might impact leadership and your workforce. One popular use case for AI so far has been in assisting leaders with business decisions.

Potential Cost Increases

One barrier that has potentially prevented more businesses from fully diving into the world of AI is cost. Unfortunately, heading into 2025, this barrier is not likely to get any smaller. Ben Torben-Nielsen, speaking to Forbes, indicates that prices for AI models are likely to spike in the new year.

The increased use of AI as well as larger AI companies like OpenAI changing their pricing model are the largest potential contributors to these changes. This means that, for those looking to get into the AI game this year, you may need to fork over some extra cash to do so.

The Need for AI-Competent Leadership

Leadership teams are increasingly expected to understand and effectively implement AI strategies. Many companies are already working towards hiring chief AI officers in order to oversee any AI-related components of the business.

Looking forward to 2025, this means that it could be helpful for your business—regardless of if you’re heavily using AI currently or not—to look at either putting policies in place to dictate safe AI use practices or to even hire a dedicated employee who is an expert on AI.

AI In Government: Potential Regulatory Changes

The third component of the AI puzzle heading into 2025 is the regulatory landscape. There still isn’t much in terms of regulations surrounding AI, but this could soon change.

AI And The Trump Administration

The biggest question surrounding AI and the regulatory landscape heading into 2025 is how the Trump administration plans to regulate it. Currently, a patchwork of legislation has been introduced across 45 U.S. states, but there hans’t been much movement on the federal level.

While president-elect Trump has not made much indication as to how his administration plans to regulate AI heading into 2025, his close relationship with Elon Musk—a co-founder of OpenAI—could indicate a relatively favorable regulatory landscape for AI in the U.S..

AI Regulation Around The World

Despite regulatory challenges, countries like China are making notable strides in AI development, spurring global competition. Businesses must navigate this competitive environment by investing in cutting-edge AI research and ensuring they stay at the forefront of technological advancements.

However, the regulatory landscape is becoming increasingly complex, with frameworks like the EU AI Act introducing stricter compliance requirements. Companies that proactively address these regulations can avoid potential penalties and foster trust with customers and stakeholders.

Make The Decision That’s Not Artificially Intellegent For Your Business

Will 2025 finally be the year AI gains sentience and takes over the world? Probably not (but I suppose we can’t say for certain). That doesn’t take away from the general uneasiness surrounding AI heading into 2025. Ultimately, it’s still a relatively new technology, and there are plenty of reasons to be somewhat cautious and reserved about it. At the same time, given its rapid rise in popularity, you’ll likely have to come to some sort of conclusion about what your business plans to do about AI in 2025. Luckily, with the information provided in this article, you’ll have a good enough forecast to help you decide whether to submit to your new robot overlords or bravely stand up against the technological revolution.

AI is only one piece to the much larger puzzle of trends that may impact businesses heading into 2025. Let Payday HCM help you stay updated on all the potential healthcare and legislative developments heading into 2025.
