Choosing the right human capital management service provider can be a hard decision for any business, whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been around for years. Firstly, you need to decide for your business whether you’ll even go with an HCM service provider or opt to perform those tasks in-house. Then, there’s the process of either finding a provider or performing a job search (or searches) in order to find the right talent to fit your business’s needs. These can all be lengthy and time-consuming processes that, if done incorrectly, can cost your organization even more time and possibly money.

At Payday HCM, we understand these problems. We’ve had plenty of potential clients approach us with many of these same concerns, sharing how difficult it can be to sort through all of the noise and simply find the solution that is best for your business. Often, one crucial step in this process is reading reviews of the various service platforms available to you. Of course, we could just publish a review talking about how great we are, but that wouldn’t be doing you any justice. Instead, we wanted you to hear directly from our clients about how we are doing so that you can make the best decision for your business.

In this article, we’ll dive into our conversation with Payday client Perinatal Associates of New Mexico to provide an in-depth review of Payday’s services as well as their experience with Payday. We spoke with Executive Director Denise Cox about her experience working with Payday, stretching from before her time at Perinatal Associates all the way up to the present day. We hope this article will provide better insight into the quality of Payday’s services and help you and your business take the next step in your HCM journey.

In this article, we’ll go over:

How Perinatal Associates Discovered Payday HCM’s Services

Firstly, we’ll dive into a little bit more about what Perinatal Associates of New Mexico do and how they came to utilize Payday’s services.

About Perinatal Associates of New Mexico

According to Cox, Perinatal Associates first started with only two physicians and a single office back in 1987. Since then, Perinatal Associates, who offer high-risk pregnancy care that ranges from ultrasounds to gestational diabetes management, has expanded to cover a wide portion of New Mexico.

“Today, we have five physicians and 13 offices. We have five physician offices: Espanola, Los Estancia, Northside, Socorro, Ruidoso, Las Cruces, and Farmington… and then we have eight satellite offices,” Cox said.

Following the purchase of the ear, nose, and throat practice Cox previously worked for by a larger hospital, she sought another position within private practice.

“I really love private practice. It's like running your own business and collaborating with the board of directors (and) the physicians. I knew that that was where my heart was. So, I started looking around for another position, and that's how I fell into this one,” Cox said.

The Issues Perinatal Associates Were Having Before Payday HCM

Before Cox joined the team at Perinatal Associates, their practice was growing and was continuing to grow as Cox came on board. Their payroll processes, however, had remained stagnant.

“When I came here, my finance director was doing payroll by hand. It was taking her about 4 days to do. And the company had grown so much here and continued to want to grow. So I said, well, for (a) very low cost, there's a company that can do a lot of this work for you,” Cox said.

The company Cox was referring to here was Payday. Given Perinatal Associates' growth and Cox having joined the team, one could argue this suggestion was almost kismet: Cox had already worked with Payday at her previous practice alongside one of our VPs of Sales, Patrick Sanders, and our Director of Account Management, Tiffany Haworth.

“I already had developed a relationship with a lot of them,” Cox said. “I've seen Patrick work his way up through the ranks (and I) worked with Tiffany on insurance for a long time.”

Implementing Payday HCM’s Services

The next step of the journey, then, brings us to Perinatal Associates’ implementation of Payday’s services.

Services Utilized By Perinatal Associates

While payroll was certainly a service Perinatal Associates was eager to take advantage of through Payday, there are a handful of other services offered that they have utilized or are currently implementing.

“So, the services that we use is obviously the time clock, the HRIS system isolved. We're just adding the scheduling module now and some other expense management pieces that we haven't been utilizing. We also use the insurance services as well. And then, we have used, at times, the HR support that's offered,” Cox said.

Tackling The Issues Faced By Perinatal Associates

As Cox mentioned previously, the time it was taking for Perinatal Associates to complete their payroll was starting to become an issue due to the growth of the practice. This was coupled with a handful of other issues that Cox said would lead Perinatal to choosing Payday.

“So, the time (clock) was a big thing. Also, employees being able to access a lot of things and request time off, being able to look at their pay stubs—everything was by paper… Another big thing was that there was no human resources person… when I started here,” Cox said.

Cox highlighted the impact that Payday had particularly on the HR front for Perinatal Associates, noting how Payday worked with their team to bring back a former employee and develop the skills needed so that they could handle their HR needs.

“He was having multiple times a week sessions with an HR person that literally taught him how to do the I9 verification… They redid the handbook. He has come into his own now… That was a really great service to have, to bridge that (gap) because I wouldn't have been able to dedicate the time to him. And we would have had to hire someone that was far more experienced,” Cox said.

The Impact Of Payday HCM On Perinatal Associates

Now that we know more about Perinatal Associates and the types of services they have through Payday, we can dive deeper into the impact these services have had on their practice.

“It Made A Huge Difference”

Following the implementation of Payday’s services, Cox noted just how big of an impact these services had throughout the organization.

“It made a huge difference. My finance manager was blown away by the support and how easy it was… just so many things that she was doing manually before that she didn't have to do,” Cox said. “The employees love that they're able to look at their time card, that they can view if they need to make a change to something… It just made it so that things are much more streamlined.”

Becoming a practice with multiple locations throughout the state proved a worthy challenge for Perinatal Associates. Luckily, Cox said that, with Payday’s services, a lot of the issues with onboarding employees across multiple locations became a lot easier with Payday.

“We have locations throughout the entire state. So, someone was driving to those locations or that person had to come to Albuquerque to do all of their onboarding. Now… we're able to do a lot of the onboarding online. They're able to fill out their paperwork online. That has cut down a lot of time that we spent traveling unnecessarily,” Cox said.

Why Choose Payday HCM?

Of course, it’s no secret that there are plenty of other companies out there that offer the same services that Payday does. But when it came to choosing an HCM service provider, Cox said that, ultimately, it was the people at Payday that encouraged her to come back to work with us.

“I met (Patrick) when I was working at the practice in Santa Fe… I've been with him as he's worked up through the ranks, and he is just always very responsive. He's always on top of things. I feel like our business matters—it's never taken for granted. It's almost become like a little bit of a family type of feel.”

Cox was also sure to note the impact that Tiffany and Benefits Implementation Manager Delphina Inez have had not only on the practice but on her personally as well.

“I've worked with (Tiffany and Delphina) for almost 20 years now. I never have to worry if something's taken care of. I feel like they always have our best interests (at heart)... It's very clear and transparent communication, and it just makes it so much easier for us to make a decision for our organization,” Cox said.

Putting The ‘Human’ Back In Human Capital Management

As we said above, hunting for a human capital management service provider can be a difficult task. Amid the myriad of options available and the endless lists of services, it can be hard to know which options might truly be best for your organization. For Cox and Perinatal Associates of New Mexico, that best fit was Payday HCM.

“I have a lot of different friends that are in HR… and we'll talk about the companies that they use or the issues that they're having. I knew working with Payday, I didn't have any of those issues. There was no reason to look elsewhere because the customer service and the level of service… you don't find that with other places,” Cox said.
